Portable SSDs are small, fast-to-sell event items with prices that move with NAND costs. Today 8 of 37 in-stock items sit at or near their own recorded low today. SanDisk launched a new Extreme Portable generation in February at a $259.99 MSRP for 1TB - a vendor list price, not a price we measure, so the badges ignore it.

What to watch in portable SSDs this event
Portable SSDs are the event's impulse storage: compact, well-reviewed, and easy to add to a basket. They are also priced from the same NAND as internal SSDs, which is why their prices rose through 2026 and why a list price set during that rise is a poor baseline for judging an event discount. The new SanDisk Extreme Portable generation, and why MSRP is not our number
SanDisk announced a next-generation portable SSD portfolio on 24 February 2026. In its own release, the SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD became available that day, at a stated MSRP of $259.99 for 1TB, with 2TB and 4TB offered and a five-year limited warranty; SanDisk quotes read speeds of up to 2,000MB/s, which is its specification, not a figure we have measured. SanDisk's product pages for the new line carry a 'v3' suffix in the URL; the release itself calls it the next generation rather than numbering it.
An MSRP is a manufacturer's list price. It is exactly the kind of number this site does not measure deals against, because in 2026 list prices have been the least reliable baseline in storage. We show it here because it is sourced and dated and because buyers will see it quoted - not because a discount from it means anything on its own.
Our catalogue also cannot reliably tell the new generation from the previous one by listing title alone, and both may be on sale during the event. We do not guess which generation a listing is. If the generation matters to you, confirm the model number on the listing before buying.

The event trap in portable SSDs is the new-launch discount: a recently released drive shown at a percentage off its launch MSRP. A launch MSRP set during a rising NAND market is a high anchor, and a discount from it can leave the price well above what comparable drives cost. It is also easy to buy the previous generation believing it is the new one, or the reverse, when both sit in the same search results.
Measure against the listing's own history, compare per gigabyte at the same capacity, and read the model number. The badge is what tells you whether today's price is low for that drive.
An event is not a reason to buy a portable SSD. If you are not moving files between machines or carrying a working set, the right purchase this week is none. Buy one because you already know what you will put on it and at what capacity, and when its own badge says the price is low for it.
