What AllFrame actually does, per WD's own description

WD describes AllFrame as firmware that helps reduce video frame drops and improve overall video recording and playback - a design response to the specific failure mode of a surveillance recorder, where a dropped frame during a write is footage that cannot be recovered later, unlike a desktop file write that a retry can usually fix. WD's own literature ties this to ATA streaming improvements and, on the current sheet, to support for a higher drive-bay count within a single NVR than WD's plain desktop-class drives carry.

The AllFrame AI variant - stated only for the specific 8/10/12TB 2019-era part numbers discussed above - adds the capacity to guide an additional 32 streams of Deep Learning analytics traffic to disk alongside the recording streams, per WD's own description. That is a firmware capability tied to those exact part numbers, not a blanket feature of every WD Purple drive sold under that name.

RV sensors and multi-bay chassis

WD's current data sheet states RV (rotational vibration) sensors as present on capacities 3TB and above, and absent on the 1TB and 2TB parts specifically - a genuine capacity-dependent feature split confirmed directly from WD's own spec table, not an assumption. RV sensors matter specifically in multi-bay NVR chassis, where the vibration one drive's own operation induces into its neighbours can otherwise degrade performance across the whole array. If you are filling more than a couple of bays with WD Purple, the 1-2TB parts are the ones without this feature - worth checking before assuming every capacity in the line carries it.

Camera and stream ratings, cited

WD's current data sheet states support for up to 64 single-stream HD cameras per drive, footnoted to a specific test condition: 3.2Mbps per stream at 1080p, H.265 encoding, 25fps. That footnote is also the source for this cluster's sizing-calculator default, since it is the only vendor-published per-camera bitrate figure we could render from either maker's documentation. The 2019-dated 8/10/12TB AllFrame AI parts additionally state 32 AI streams for Deep Learning analytics, on top of the 64-camera recording rating - two separate numbers describing two separate jobs the drive can be asked to do at once.

Buying the exact part number, not just the capacity

Because WD has revised at least one capacity's configuration between documents, treat the exact part number printed on a listing as the source of truth rather than the capacity alone. The live listings table above shows the part number against each price - check it before assuming a given capacity carries the workload rating, RPM or firmware feature this page describes for a specific document.

Reliability figures, per WD's own documentation

WD states MTBF of up to 1 million hours on its current 1-8TB Purple parts, and up to 1.5 million hours specifically on the 8/10/12TB parts named in the 2019 document - a genuine per-part-number difference WD attributes to the higher-tier configuration rather than to capacity alone. Both documents carry the same 3-year limited-warranty term across every capacity, and both state the same load/unload cycle rating of 300,000 - the one reliability figure that has stayed constant across the two document vintages we could render.

MTBF is a population statistic under WD's own stated test conditions (a 90TB/year workload and 40°C drive temperature, per the current sheet's footnote) rather than a prediction for any individual drive, and WD's own documentation says so explicitly - we reproduce that caveat rather than let the headline number stand alone.
