The nominal term matches at 5 years on both sides. What differs is the confidence behind the figure: Samsung's is the vendor's own current published datasheet; the Fanxiang figure comes from a reviewer reading it off a physical box, with the reviewer's own note that it was not corroborated on Fanxiang's website. Advertised performance - maker claims, not our measurement
Samsung's datasheet states up to 7,450MB/s sequential read and 6,900MB/s sequential write for the 990 PRO (maker claim). Fanxiang's S660 listings advertise up to 5,000MB/s sequential read (maker claim). We do not test drives, we publish no benchmark figures of our own, and we make no comparative performance statement about either drive in practice - both numbers above are exactly what each party has published, nothing more.
Both figures sit well above Sony's published PS5 requirement of 5,500MB/s sequential read, so both meet the platform's floor on paper. The console does not reward exceeding that floor - our cheapest PS5 SSD ranking treats the requirement as a threshold rather than a leaderboard for exactly this reason, and this comparison applies the same logic: neither drive's advertised headroom above Sony's minimum is a reason to pay more for a console-only build, whatever it might mean in a general-purpose PC.
What each drive is actually built from
Put the sourced facts side by side without smoothing them into a single takeaway: Samsung designs its own controller and fabricates its own NAND in-house, a level of vertical integration few consumer SSD makers have, and states that explicitly in its own datasheet for every capacity of the 990 PRO. Fanxiang, per ServeTheHome's teardown, sources a Phison controller and Micron NAND for the S660 - both established component makers in their own right, assembled by a brand that does not manufacture either part itself. Neither structure is inherently better; they are different positions in the supply chain, and the price difference above is one visible consequence of that difference, not the whole explanation for it.
Who each side's published terms suit
Samsung's own documentation states a DRAM cache, the higher TBW ceiling, and a warranty term corroborated on the vendor's own current datasheet - specifications that suit a buyer who wants the sourcing confidence to match the price. Fanxiang's S660 costs less per GB at every matched capacity and meets Sony's published PS5 requirement on paper, at the cost of a warranty term whose only source is a reviewer's photograph of a box rather than the vendor's current site. Which published terms suit you is a question this page can inform with sourced numbers; it is not one we are answering on either drive's behalf.

Does the S660 have a DRAM cache like the 990 PRO?
No. Samsung's own datasheet for the 990 PRO lists a DRAM Cache Memory row (1-4GB LPDDR4 depending on capacity). ServeTheHome's teardown of the Fanxiang S660 found no DRAM chip on the board at all - it uses dynamic SLC caching instead. What warranty does each carry?
Samsung's own datasheet states 5 years limited, with TBW scaling from 600TB at 1TB to 2,400TB at 4TB. ServeTheHome recorded the same 5-year figure on the Fanxiang S660's box, paired with 2,800TBW at 4TB - but noted that term was not listed on Fanxiang's own website at the time of review. Both terms are quoted above with their source; we do not average or resolve the difference in confidence between them.
Which has better performance?

Why compare a budget brand to a flagship drive at all?
Because the price gap is the entire commercial argument for a brand like Fanxiang, and it can only be shown honestly by comparing like-for-like: the same capacity, the same interface, both currently buyable. A cross-capacity or cross-tier comparison would flatter or damage either side depending on which capacities happened to be picked, which is why this page holds capacity constant instead.
Does the 990 PRO fit a PS5?
Samsung's own datasheet lists "Client PCs, PlayStation 5" as the 990 PRO's usage application, and the drive is commonly sold with a PS5-oriented heatsink variant.
