SATA is usually enough when the server qualifies the SATA option and the workload is backup, archive or object capacity. SAS is justified when the storage design needs SAS controllers, dual-port architecture or multipath-capable behavior.

Use SATA when the exact PowerEdge option matrix qualifies the 24TB SATA drive, the workload is capacity-first and the storage design does not need SAS dual-port behavior.
