SATA is usually enough for qualified nearline capacity. SAS is justified when the platform, redundancy model or controller ecosystem needs SAS behavior.

Use SATA when the exact PowerEdge option matrix qualifies the 24TB SATA drive, the workload is capacity-first and the storage design does not need SAS dual-port behavior.
