What makes P5810 different

SLC stores one bit per NAND cell and gives up density to gain endurance and predictable write behavior. That makes P5810 much smaller and usually more expensive per terabyte than TLC or QLC enterprise drives.

Its value should be measured per required write and by service behavior under sustained load, not by raw capacity economics.

Write-intensive roles

P5810 can serve as a write-back cache, database journal, logging tier, metadata device or high-churn buffer in front of denser storage. It can also isolate write amplification from QLC capacity drives.

Capacity remains a hard constraint. If the active write set exceeds the available P5810 footprint, PS1030 provides a larger 3 DWPD tier, while software architecture may be needed to separate hot and cold data.

Qualification and alternatives

Confirm U.2 bay support, PCIe 4.0 x4 wiring, power-loss protection expectations, thermal limits and firmware qualification. A cache or journal device can become infrastructure-critical, so redundancy and spare strategy matter despite its small capacity.

Choose PS1030 when 3 DWPD is enough and more capacity is required. Choose PS1010 for read-intensive Gen5 performance, or P5336/P5430 when the real requirement is density rather than write endurance.
