MDD Hard Drive Warranty: What the Listings State, and Who You Claim Against

Our stake in this

We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, including links to the sellers it describes. You should read everything below knowing that. What we can offer against it is method: the figures here are computed from our own price database rather than supplied by anyone, the ownership facts come from public records we link, and we publish no rating or verdict on any seller - we show you what they sell, what the warranty covers, and how to check a drive yourself.

Quick answer

An MDD drive's warranty is whatever its listing states, and it is the seller's, not a drive maker's. Of the 27 active MDD listings we hold, 9 state five years, 1 state three years and 17 state no warranty at all. Right now 5 of the 15 MDD listings in stock state a term.

Every MDD listing and GoHardDrive's published terms were read at source on 1 October 2026. Prices and counts last refreshed

People search for "warranty on MDD SATA 18TB" as if the answer were a property of the drive. It is not. An MDD warranty is a property of the listing - what that seller wrote when they listed it - and it varies from one MDD listing to the next at the same capacity. The useful questions are three: what does this listing actually say, who made the promise, and what happens if the drive fails. This page answers each from the listings and the published terms, and links the policy rather than paraphrasing a returns procedure that could change under us.

What the listings actually state

On 1 October 2026 we read every MDD listing in our catalogue - title and feature text, as the seller wrote them - and recorded the warranty each one states. Before that read, our own records assumed five years for almost every MDD drive, because that is the figure people remember. The listings said otherwise: 9 state five years, 1 state three, and 17 say nothing about a warranty at all. Our records now hold only what was stated. One five-year listing adds "(Return to point of purchase)" after the term - a seller telling you where a claim goes.

The table below is every MDD listing in stock now, with the warranty that listing states and the evidence for the offer. Two drives of the same capacity can carry different terms, so read the row for the listing you are buying, and screenshot it when you buy. Prices are Amazon US listings, in US dollars.

Provenance describes the offer shown now, not the drive: Amazon's own condition and grade, the seller, the seller's note in their words, and what the listing title claims. It can change when a different seller holds the listing.

Whose promise is it?

A drive maker's warranty attaches to a serial number. Seagate, Western Digital and Toshiba honour it for a drive they sold as new under their own name, for the term on their own documentation. An MDD drive is sold under a label registered to GOHARDDRIVE, INC. (see who owns MDD), so a warranty on an MDD listing is a commitment by the seller of that listing. That is not a reason to distrust it - sellers honour warranties every day - but it changes what the warranty is worth: it lasts as long as the seller exists and chooses to honour it, and the terms are theirs.

It also matters which seller. The MDD label belongs to one company, but MDD drives are sold on Amazon by several merchants. Among the in-stock MDD offers we have re-read since 1 October, the sellers named are: MD TECH, Worldwide Product Importer, goHardDrive. The warranty a listing states is that seller's, and the provenance line under each condition in the table names the seller for the offer shown - which can change when a different seller holds the listing.

What GoHardDrive's published terms say

GoHardDrive publishes return terms for purchases made on its own site. We quote the parts that bear on a failed drive and link the full text; we do not rewrite them as a procedure, because the published version is the one that applies.

Company's own words goHardDrive.com Terms - return (RMA) policy for purchases made at goHardDrive.com, GOHARDDRIVE, INC.. Read 1 October 2026.

The terms also describe an RMA number requirement and charges where no defect is found. Two things are worth noticing. First, these terms state a 15-day window for returning defective merchandise and do not state a warranty length - the five- and three-year terms come from individual listings. Second, they govern purchases on goHardDrive.com. Whether and how they apply to an MDD drive bought on Amazon, from GoHardDrive or another merchant, is not something the terms page says, so ask the seller before you rely on it.

Recourse when you bought on Amazon

Your first route is the place you bought from: an Amazon purchase is returned through the Amazon order, inside its return window. If the listing was part of the Amazon Renewed programme, Amazon describes its guarantee in its own words: "If the product does not look or work as expected, you are eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt with the Amazon Renewed guarantee."

Company's own words Amazon Renewed - programme description and guarantee, Amazon.com. Read 20 August 2026.

Many MDD titles end "(Renewed)", but a title is not proof that a listing is in the programme - Amazon's product data reports most of those listings as condition New and carries no programme flag we can read - so check your order page rather than the title. After the return window, the warranty the listing stated is a claim against that seller, under that seller's terms.

What to keep

Keep the listing as it was when you bought (a screenshot showing the warranty statement), the invoice, the drive's serial number, and its health data from the day it arrived. If a warranty is stated in the listing and nowhere else, the screenshot is your evidence that it was promised. And read the drive's health inside the return window: a fault found on day three is a return, while one found on day forty is a warranty claim with a seller.

Before you buy: the honest version

A seller warranty is a real promise. It is just a different promise. Plenty of refurbished drives are sold with seller warranties that are honoured without fuss. The difference from a manufacturer warranty is who stands behind it and for how long, so buy from a listing whose terms you have read, keep proof of them, and check the drive while you can still simply send it back.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Do MDD hard drives have a warranty?

Some listings state one and most do not. Of the active MDD listings we hold, read on 1 October 2026, 9 state five years, 1 three years and 17 state none. Where a warranty is stated it is the seller's commitment, not the drive maker's.

Who honours an MDD warranty?

The seller who made it. MDD is a label owned by GOHARDDRIVE, INC., and several different sellers list MDD drives on Amazon; the warranty a listing states is that seller's. A drive maker's warranty attaches to a drive it sold as new under its own name, which an MDD-labelled drive is not.

Is the MDD 18TB SATA warranty five years?

Check the specific listing, because it varies listing by listing rather than by capacity. Some 18TB SATA MDD listings state five years; others state none. The table on this page shows what each in-stock listing states today.

How do I return a faulty MDD drive bought on Amazon?

Start with the return route for the place you bought it: an Amazon purchase is returned through your Amazon order. GoHardDrive's published RMA terms are for purchases made on goHardDrive.com, and we link them rather than restate them. Do it inside the return window, with the listing and invoice saved.

Does Amazon's Renewed guarantee cover MDD drives?

It covers products sold in the Amazon Renewed programme: in Amazon's words, a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt. Many MDD titles end '(Renewed)', but a title is not proof a listing is in the programme, and Amazon's product data does not tell us which are. Check the order page.

What should I keep in case I need the warranty?

The listing as it was when you bought (a screenshot showing the warranty statement), the invoice, the drive's serial number, and its health data from the day it arrived. A seller warranty is only as useful as your proof of what was promised.
