Ranges come from our own daily price snapshots of Amazon US listings. Out-of-stock drives are excluded from the table entirely. Comparisons are always against the same drive's history, never against a manufacturer list price.

Every row in the table above compares a drive's current price against that same drive's own tracked history. Not against its list price, not against a competitor, and not against a manufacturer's suggested figure — against what we have actually watched it sell for. That is the only comparison that survives a market where list prices are set to make discounts look large.
A verdict of AT/NEAR LOW means the current price is within three percent of the lowest price we have recorded for that exact drive in the last thirty days. It does not mean the price is low in absolute terms, and it does not mean the price will not fall further. It means that on this drive's own recent record, today is at the good end.
TYPICAL means the price sits within seven percent either side of the thirty-day median. This is the most common verdict and it is the least interesting one, which is the point: most prices most of the time are unremarkable, and a tool that flagged everything as a deal would be worthless. If you need the drive, a TYPICAL price is a perfectly reasonable price to pay.
ELEVATED means the drive is currently more than seven percent above its thirty-day median. That is worth pausing over, but it is not automatically a reason to wait — in a supply-constrained market an elevated price sometimes reflects genuine scarcity rather than a seller testing the ceiling, and the drive may not get cheaper before it gets unavailable.
NEW means we have fewer than seven days of history for that drive and will not compute a range from it. This is deliberate and it is the most important rule on the page. A thirty-day minimum derived from one day of data is a fabricated number wearing the costume of a real one, and publishing it would undermine every honest figure next to it. Those rows show what we have — the date we started tracking — and nothing more.
The discount percentage is the most manipulated number in storage retail. A percentage is a relationship between two figures, and the seller controls one of them. Raise the reference price and the discount grows without the price you pay moving at all. This is legal, ubiquitous, and it is why a 36% badge tells you almost nothing about whether a drive is worth buying.
Cost per terabyte has no such weakness. It is computed from the price you actually pay and the capacity you actually receive, and neither input is under a marketer's control. A drive at $18/TB is a better rate than a drive at $24/TB regardless of what either listing claims to be discounted from, and that ordering does not change based on how the seller frames it.
This is why the table shows both a verdict and a $/TB figure and why they answer different questions. The verdict answers "is this drive cheap relative to its own recent history". The $/TB answers "is this drive cheap relative to every other way of buying a terabyte". A drive can be at its own recorded low and still be poor value per terabyte, which usually means it has been consistently expensive rather than that today is a bargain.
The strongest buy is the row where both agree: a good per-terabyte rate that is also at or near its own tracked low. The weakest is the reverse. The most reliable saving in storage is not a discount, it is buying the right rung of the capacity ladder. Because cost per terabyte does not scale linearly with capacity, the next size up is regularly cheaper per terabyte than the size you were planning to buy — sometimes substantially so, occasionally while costing barely more in absolute terms.
The ladder block above works this out from live prices rather than from a rule of thumb. It shows the best cost per terabyte in stock at each capacity across the whole IronWolf line, so you can see immediately where the rate improves and where it gets worse. In a normal market the curve improves steadily to a point and then flattens; in 2026 it has been lumpier than that, with scarcity at particular capacities producing local spikes that have nothing to do with the underlying economics.
The check to run before buying is simple. Take the capacity you intended, look at the rung above it, and compare both the per-terabyte rate and the absolute price. If the rate improves and the extra outlay is tolerable, take the larger drive — you get better value and defer the next upgrade. If the rate gets worse, you are paying a scarcity premium for capacity you do not need, and the smaller drive is correct.
There is a constraint worth remembering: in an array, capacity has to be planned rather than opportunistically bought. Mixing capacities in a parity array means the extra space on the larger drives is frequently unusable, so a great deal on a bigger drive may buy you nothing at all until every drive is replaced. Our prices refresh every few hours, and the freshness stamp at the top of this page shows the exact moment of the last successful check rather than the time you loaded the page. Those are different things and the difference matters: a page that claims to be live but stamps itself with the current time is telling you nothing about the data.
For a purchase you intend to make within a week, checking daily is enough. Retail drive pricing does not move on the timescale that equities do, and the rows that change meaningfully in a day are the exception. For a purchase you are willing to wait months for, a weekly check costs nothing and gives the price-history range time to become more informative — the longer we track a drive, the more meaningful its thirty-day window becomes.
The signal genuinely worth acting on quickly is not a price move at all, it is a stock move. In this market a drive going out of stock is more common and more consequential than a drive getting expensive, and it is not recoverable by waiting. Anything that disappears from these tables disappeared because it was not buyable at load time, and the honest advice when you see a drive you want at a price you accept is to take it rather than to optimise the last few percent.
One caveat about the thirty-day window: it is a window on our tracking, not on the universe. We measure Amazon US listings, which is a price-discovery venue rather than the whole market, and a drive can be cheaper elsewhere in a channel we do not price. Thirty days is a deliberate compromise and it is worth understanding what it buys. A shorter window reacts quickly but is easily dominated by a single promotion, so a drive that dipped for one afternoon looks permanently cheap. A longer window is more stable but slower to notice that a price has genuinely reset upward, which in this market happens more often than it used to.
Thirty days is roughly the period over which retail drive pricing tends to hold a level before moving, which makes it long enough to establish what normal looks like and short enough to notice when normal changes. It is not a forecast and nothing on this page claims to predict the next move.
The window has a specific blind spot worth naming: a drive whose price has been climbing steadily for a month will show a median close to its current price and read TYPICAL, because the comparison is against a period that was itself elevated. The verdict is honest about what it measures — recent history — but recent history can be a rising trend rather than a stable baseline. This is why the per-terabyte figure sits next to the verdict rather than behind it, and why a TYPICAL verdict on a poor $/TB rate should be read as "consistently expensive" rather than "fairly priced".
As the drives we seeded recently accumulate history, their windows become more informative. A drive at seven days of tracking has a technically valid range that is still thin; the same drive at thirty days has a range worth acting on. The tracked-since date on each row lets you weight the verdict accordingly rather than treating all of them as equally settled.
Some rows in the table are marked refurbished, and they deserve a different reading from the new ones. A recertified enterprise-class drive is frequently the lowest cost per terabyte on any given day, and for the right role it is a legitimate purchase rather than a compromise.
The trade is warranty rather than reliability in the abstract. A refurbished drive typically carries a reseller warranty rather than a manufacturer one, and those two obligations are not the same product even when the stated term matches. The reseller warranty is a promise from whoever sold it to you, and its value depends entirely on that seller still existing and still honouring it.
For an array with parity where a single drive failure is an inconvenience rather than a loss, refurbished capacity is a reasonable way to buy terabytes. For a single-drive backup target holding the only copy of something, it is not, and no price advantage changes that. The condition badge in the table exists so this is a decision you make rather than one you discover.

If the verdict says ELEVATED and you can wait, waiting is reasonable. But in a supply-constrained market the bigger risk is availability rather than price — a drive that goes out of stock is not recoverable by patience. If the rate is acceptable and you need the drive, a TYPICAL price is a fine price.
Often, but check rather than assume. Cost per terabyte does not scale linearly, so the rung above sometimes offers a better rate for modest extra outlay and sometimes carries a scarcity premium.
