The capacity gap is large

Six terabytes per bay compounds quickly. In four bays, IronWolf Pro 32TB gives 24TB more raw capacity. In eight bays, 48TB. In twelve bays, 72TB. In dual parity, the usable difference is about 12TB, 36TB and 60TB before overhead.

That makes the Seagate drive attractive in fixed-bay NAS systems. It is much less persuasive in a chassis where adding bays is cheap.

Seagate versus WD ecosystem

Many NAS buyers prefer to stay inside one drive ecosystem because compatibility lists, vendor support and fleet spares become simpler. IronWolf Pro brings Seagate's IronWolf Health Management story. Red Pro brings WD's NAS line and a broad installed base.
