DL360 Gen11 4LFF compatibility

HPE 26TB drives in ProLiant DL360 Gen11

Verified spec guide ·

DL360 Gen11 26TB support is a chassis-specific question. HPE documents a 4LFF low-profile SAS/SATA drive-bay configuration; SFF-heavy DL360 builds are a different storage purchase.

Because the DL360 is a 1U platform, the capacity decision is bay-constrained: four 26TB LFF drives are 104TB raw before RAID and filesystem overhead.

Quick answer

Treat DL360 Gen11 26TB support as conditional on the 4LFF SAS/SATA chassis, drive cage, controller and firmware. Do not assume support from another ProLiant model or from physical fit alone.

OEM procurement check

Verify the part number, carrier, firmware, sector format and server or storage-array qualification before ordering. A bare mechanism or third-party compatible listing can be useful, but it is an alternative unless it is sold as the qualified OEM kit or spare you need.

Workload rating is recorded per part number from the manufacturer's published data for that exact model where available, not blanketed across the line — two drives of the same capacity can differ because they are different generations. A dash means the figure is not stated for that listing. Recording technology comes from the manufacturer's published CMR/SMR list; a model absent from that list is shown as UNVERIFIED rather than guessed. Rows priced above 3× this line's in-stock median are flagged and excluded from the winner callout and from every median we compute.

Live acquisition math for exact matches

This table is computed from live DatacenterDisk rows when an exact in-stock match exists. It is intentionally blank for unavailable models rather than filled with stale prices.

No exact in-stock row is available right now. Use the availability table for nearby live alternatives, then re-check the exact model before ordering.

Why this page is conditional

DL360 Gen11 has several front-bay layouts. A page that says all DL360 Gen11 servers accept 26TB LFF drives would be wrong. The correct answer starts with the 4LFF chassis and continues through the controller and firmware path.

SAS vs SATA in a 1U server

Use SAS when the environment is SAS-standardized or needs the controller behavior associated with SAS. Use SATA when the exact HPE SATA option is qualified and the deployment is capacity-oriented rather than multipath-oriented.

Replacement-drive buying

For a failed drive in an existing DL360 Gen11 array, match interface, sector format, carrier and OEM option identity to the existing drive group. A cheaper bare drive can create a support problem even if it spins up.

Frequently asked questions

How much raw capacity is four 26TB drives?

Four 26TB drives provide 104TB raw decimal capacity before RAID, formatting and hot-spare overhead.

Can I put 26TB LFF drives in an SFF DL360 Gen11?

No. A 3.5-inch LFF drive requires the documented 4LFF chassis.

Should I choose SAS or SATA?

Choose SAS for SAS-standardized controller paths or multipath needs. Choose SATA for qualified nearline workloads where single-port capacity is acceptable.
