Tandberg's own datasheet for its StorageLoader LTO-4 states the chassis "contains two 4-slot removable magazines storing a total of 8 data cartridges" - the slot count and magazine structure is the headline addition over a bare drive. HPE's own data sheet for its 8-slot 1U autoloader describes the same shape: "Number of cartridge slots: 8 cartridge slots," built around a single drive.
Both manufacturers document a standard barcode reader, not an optional add-on. Tandberg's datasheet: "Barcode Reader: Yes," supplied "with a barcode scanner, barcode labels." HPE's own text: a "standard barcode reader." The reader is what lets the library track which physical cartridge is in which slot without a human reading labels by hand.
Every unit we track is a single-drive design - one drive mechanism, several cartridge slots feeding it. None of our tracked listings is a multi-drive library.
The HPE 8-Slot 1U autoloader we track ($1809.06) is listed on Amazon as "LTO-6/LTO-9" - a combination HPE's own current documentation does not describe as a single catalog bundle. HPE documents this chassis family (the MSL 1/8 line) as shipping with LTO-7, LTO-8 or LTO-9 drives, not LTO-6. This looks like a reseller-configured unit rather than a stock HPE SKU. We are not stating a read/write compatibility claim for this specific unit's drive generation until that is independently confirmed against the actual unit - confirm the installed drive's generation with the seller before buying if that matters for your archive.

The natural next number would be total native capacity per full magazine at live media prices - an 8-slot LTO-5 magazine's worth of storage, priced. We do not compute it, because this site does not currently stock LTO-4 or LTO-5 media at all, and the third unit's own generation is unconfirmed (see above). Rather than substitute a different generation's media price into that arithmetic, we are stating the gap.
