Verdicts are computed from our own daily snapshots, always against the same drive's own record and never against a manufacturer list price. The only price shown on this page is the current one, with the time we last checked it — we publish the verdict as a label rather than printing past prices. Out-of-stock drives are excluded entirely, and the date beside each badge tells you how long we have been watching that drive.

What a verdict means here

Each row compares a drive's current price against its own recent price history, per condition track. A refurbished drive is scored against refurbished history and a new drive against new history - blending them would score a refurb low against a new drive's range and call everything a bargain.

A drive with no history yet reads as building history rather than being given a verdict it has not earned. That is common on rows we have recently added, and it resolves itself as snapshots accumulate.

Why Exos verdicts move more than most lines

Exos pricing is unusually volatile at retail because two supply channels feed it. New stock follows the enterprise market, which the 2026 shortage has pushed around considerably. Refurbished stock follows decommissioning cycles, which have nothing to do with today's demand.

The practical consequence is that a capacity can be a genuine low on one track and unremarkable on the other in the same week. Read the tier column alongside the verdict, and check both tracks before deciding you have found the floor.

How do you decide a price is a good deal?

By comparing it against that specific drive's own recent price history on the same condition track, not against a list price or a competitor. A drive with no accumulated history reads as building history rather than receiving a verdict we cannot support.

Why do new and refurbished have separate verdicts?

Because they are separate markets for the same hardware. New Exos pricing follows the enterprise supply picture; refurbished follows fleet decommissioning cycles. Scoring a refurbished price against new-drive history would mark almost everything as a bargain, which would make the verdict worthless.

Does a good verdict mean I should buy?

It means the price is low against its own history, which is one input rather than a recommendation. Interface still has to match your backplane, recording technology still matters for a parity array, and a refurbished drive's warranty is still the seller's rather than Seagate's. The verdict tells you about the price and nothing else.
