For a NAS appliance, WD Red Pro is the default WD answer. Its purpose is multi-bay NAS storage, so it lines up with vendor compatibility lists, NAS-focused marketing and the support expectations buyers usually have when filling Synology, QNAP, Asustor, TerraMaster or similar boxes.
For a server, workstation or direct-attach storage system, WD Gold can be the cleaner fit. It is sold as an enterprise nearline SATA drive for 24/7 storage work, and WD261KRYZ is the model buyers can put directly on a quote.
