Best Enterprise Hard Drives: Lowest £/TB by Class, With Maker Specifications
Prices checked: · Published: · Price tracking since 5 November 2026
Quick answer
On a checkable basis, the best enterprise hard drive here is the new 3.5-inch listing with the lowest current £/TB: Seagate Exos 26TB Internal Hard Drive at £23.04/TB. That is a price ranking inside one class, read beside maker specifications. It is not a reliability verdict. Amazon.co.uk is the only merchant priced.
How the best enterprise hard drives are ranked here
Best needs a rule, so here is ours. Within one defined class, new 3.5-inch enterprise hard drives listed on Amazon.co.uk, rows are ranked by lowest current price per TB, in pounds sterling including VAT. Maker documents sit alongside that ranking to show the workload, warranty and failure-rate figures we could read. That is all best means on this page: it is not a reliability verdict, and nothing here scores build quality.
The table shows 5 of 88 in-stock matches, lowest £/TB first. The leader is Seagate Exos 26TB Internal Hard Drive at £23.04/TB, a total of £599.00. The lowest outlay among the same matches is £94.00, which can belong to a smaller drive, so those two prices may describe different products.

No table on this page prints a recording technology, so no row is called CMR here. The letters CMR in an Amazon title are a seller's claim. To settle it for one drive, match its part number to the maker's document.
Four limits are worth knowing. The ranking does not split by capacity, so a small drive and a large one compete on £/TB alone. A listing with no recorded 3.5-inch form factor falls outside the class and does not appear. Where a listing's interface is not on record, the column says so rather than guessing. A listing with no capacity on record has no £/TB at all.
What is an enterprise hard drive?
We have not found one agreed definition, so the useful answer is how makers position these ranges. Seagate presents Exos as engineered for modern data centres, with up to 32TB per drive, and described the Exos X24 as purpose-built for hyperscale. Toshiba says its MG Series is ideal for enterprise storage arrays and industrial server and storage systems.
The word alone proves little. Seagate also calls IronWolf Pro 'the essential enterprise NAS drive', and files it under NAS drives, so a title containing enterprise does not separate a server drive from a NAS drive. The enterprise class in our tables is our own catalogue sorting, not a maker's certificate.
Interface is the first practical split. The Exos and HC590 data sheets each list SATA and SAS models, and Seagate's support guidance is plain: SAS drives cannot be plugged into SATA controllers. A low £/TB on a SAS row therefore helps only a machine that already has a SAS controller. Buyers weighing the two can start with SAS versus SATA or SATA enterprise hard drives.
Best enterprise hard drives by maker line
Each table below holds the maker constant and applies the same rule: new, 3.5-inch, lowest £/TB first, three rows. A figure quoted for a line or a model belongs to that document. Match the part number in a row to the document before relying on it, because a row can be a different generation.
Seagate Exos. Seagate's data sheet DS2046.1-2512 rates its 12 TB to 24 TB models at 2,500,000 hours MTBF and a 0.35% annualised failure rate at full 24x7 operation, and its 10 TB to 2 TB models at 2,000,000 hours and 0.44%. The SATA and SAS tables for 24 TB, 20 TB, 16 TB and 12 TB also list a 5-year limited warranty. We did not find a workload rating in that sheet. The lowest Exos figure today is £23.04/TB, and the Exos range page covers the family on its own.

WD Ultrastar. WD's Ultrastar DC HC590 data sheet lists 24TB and 26TB models, SATA and SAS, at 2.5 million hours MTBF, a 0.35% annualised failure rate, 24x7 availability and a 5-year limited warranty, and rates the drive for 550TB/year workloads. WD marks the MTBF and failure rate as projected values. Those figures describe the HC590 only, and the table may show other Ultrastar models. The current low is £26.61/TB, with the wider family on the Ultrastar range page.

Toshiba MG. Toshiba gives each member of the MG Series a workload rating of 550 TB/year and a 5-year limited warranty. Because that is a series-wide statement, it is simpler to read against a table row than a sheet covering a single model. The lowest figure in this line is £23.46/TB, and the Toshiba MG Series page goes further.

WD Gold. We have not found a WD Gold document we could read, so this page states no workload, MTBF or warranty figure for the line. The table gives price and £/TB only, with £50.00/TB as the current low. A missing specification here is our gap, not a finding about the drive.

Most reliable enterprise hard drive: what the evidence allows
We do not name one. Nothing in the tables above measures failure, and we hold no failure figure tied to a specific Amazon.co.uk listing. The field data we read is Backblaze Drive Stats for Q2 2026, which gives a quarterly annualised failure rate of 1.73% across 354,415 analysed drives. Backblaze adds that drives of 20TB and above now make up more than a quarter of that dataset, and it reports three outliers above 6.95%.
- WUH722222ALE6L4 (22TB): 45,665 drives, 4,146,339 drive days, 63 failures, a 0.55% annualised rate.
- HUH721212ALN604, Backblaze's HGST 12TB model: 9,694 drives, 861,297 drive days, 180 failures, 7.63%. Backblaze treats it as an outlier, nearly seven years old.
- ST10000NM0086: 965 drives, 86,092 drive days, 22 failures, 9.33%. Its low drive count is the reason for the high rate.
- ST14000NM0138: 1,235 drives, 110,410 drive days, 25 failures, 8.26%, again with a low drive count as the reason.
The lesson is to read drive days and failures beside any percentage. A rate can rest on few failures, and the spread between models means a model's capacity or badge settles little.
| Feature | Maker data sheet | Backblaze Drive Stats |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The maker's stated rating for a model | Failures counted in Backblaze's own fleet |
| Example figure | 0.35% annualised failure rate on the Exos 12 TB to 24 TB models and the HC590 | 1.73% quarterly rate across the analysed fleet |
| Main limit | WD marks its HC590 values as projected, with final figures to be based on a sample population | Covers only the models Backblaze runs, not a listing you can buy here |
We print both because they answer different questions. Neither one corrects the other.
Best place to buy enterprise hard drives: the limit of this page
This page prices one merchant, Amazon.co.uk. Where to buy enterprise hard drives takes the question further.
For a UK consumer, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 sets the floor: goods from a trader must be of satisfactory quality, and the short-term right to reject runs to the end of 30 days. The Act defines a consumer as an individual acting for purposes wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession, so a company filling a rack should not assume those rights.
A maker's limited warranty is a separate promise from those statutory rights. The warranty lengths above come from maker documents about a line. Whether a given listing carries that cover is a question for the seller or the maker before you pay.
These tables are new only. For the other side of the market, refurbished enterprise hard drives and cheap enterprise hard drives take a different starting point.
Frequently asked questions
Is the drive with the lowest £/TB the one I should buy?
Only if it fits the machine and the job. The ranking knows price and capacity. It knows nothing about your controller, how many bays you have or how much total outlay you can accept, so settle those first.
Why do the Seagate and WD ratings look identical?
The Exos 12 TB to 24 TB models and the HC590 both print a 0.35% annualised failure rate, but WD marks its HC590 figure as projected, and each rating covers only the models in that document. Matching numbers on two sheets do not show that two drives will behave alike.
Do all enterprise hard drives need a SAS controller?
No. The Exos and HC590 sheets list SATA models too, and the interface column shows which row is which where it is on record. It is a SAS row that rules out a SATA controller.
Why is there no CMR column on this page?
These tables are not filtered on part-number evidence. A title is not evidence. When a maker document confirms the recording technology for your exact part number, trust that instead.
