24TB Hard Drive: Two Exos, Two Ultrastars and a Toshiba Compared
Prices checked: · Published: · Price tracking since 5 November 2026
Quick answer
The 24TB hard drive field on Amazon.co.uk stands at 4 enterprise offers, from £25.26/TB. Seagate lists two different 24TB SATA Exos models, one rated at 285 MB/s and one at 240 MB/s, and Western Digital has two platforms. Match the full part number, because the specification changes with it.

The table holds 4 offers. Seagate Exos 24TB Internal Server Hard Drive ST24000NM000C 3.5 Inch HDD SATA... (used) is the lowest at £606.28, which comes to £25.26/TB. Stock mixes conditions and interfaces, so a buyer wanting a new SATA drive should check Condition and Interface first. Check the Interface column against your controller; SAS vs SATA covers the differences.
24TB hard drive Seagate: two Exos models that are not the same
Seagate's current Exos sheet carries 24 TB twice, at the top of one line and at the bottom of another. Seagate's Exos page now pitches the range as 24TB to 32TB options, so the 24 TB slot in that newer line is its entry point, and on this sheet it is the slowest of its group.
| Feature | ST24000NM002H | ST24000NM001K |
|---|---|---|
| Line on the sheet | 24, 20, 16 and 12 TB | 32, 30, 28 and 24 TB |
| Maximum sustained rate, outer diameter | 285 MB/s | 240 MB/s |
| Average idle power | 6.3 W | 6.9 W |
| Idle W/TB (our division by 24) | 0.26 W/TB | 0.29 W/TB |
| Reliability figures | 2,500,000 hours MTBF, 0.35% AFR, 5-year limited warranty | 2,500,000 hours MTBF, 0.35% AFR, 5-year limited warranty |
So ST24000NM001K gives up 45 MB/s and idles 0.6 W higher, on the sheet's own numbers. The warning for shoppers is the part number. It differs by one letter from ST24000NM001H, which is the self-encrypting version of the X24-family drive and a different product again. The SAS side of that family adds ST24000NM007H (standard), ST24000NM005H (SED) and ST24000NM006H (SED-FIPS). Seagate states CMR and a helium-sealed design for both lines, and the older X24 sheet lists ST24000NM002H and ST24000NM007H as its 24 TB models.
24TB hdd WD: HC580 on 10 disks or HC590 on 11
Western Digital reaches the same capacity two ways. WD calls the HC580 a 10-disk CMR drive and the HC590 the world's first 11-disk HDD platform. With the extra disk, each platter holds less: 1100 Gbits per square inch against 1210.
| Feature | HC580 at 24 TB | HC590 at 24 TB |
|---|---|---|
| Model number form | WUH722424ALxxyz | WUH722624ALxxyz |
| Sustained rate | 298 MB/s | 287 MB/s |
| Idle power, SATA and SAS | 5.5 W and 5.8 W | 5.6 W and 5.9 W |
| Idle W/TB as WD states it, SATA and SAS | 0.23 and 0.24 | 0.23 and 0.25 |
| Random 50/50 read/write power, SATA and SAS | 8.4 W and 8.7 W | 8.4 W and 8.7 W |
| Acoustics, idle and operating (typical) | 2.0 and 3.2 Bels | 2.5 and 3.2 Bels |
| Workload rating | Up to 550 TB a year | 550 TB a year |
At 24 TB the HC580 is ahead or level on every row: 11 MB/s faster and half a Bel quieter at idle, with no row going the HC590's way. The HC590 platform's own case is at 26 TB, the size it also comes in. Both are CMR, and WD marks the HC590's 2.5 million hours MTBF and 0.35% annualised failure rate as projected values. The WD Ultrastar page covers the wider family.
Toshiba MG11 at 24TB: the lowest idle figure we hold
Toshiba's overview puts the MG11 SATA group that includes 24 TB at 4.35 W active idle, typical. Divide by 24 and you get 0.18 W/TB, the lowest on this page, against 0.23 W/TB for both Ultrastars and 0.26 W/TB for the X24-family SATA drive. SAS is 4.83 W, 0.20 W/TB, from the same kind of merged cell. That matters because a merged cell gives a group value rather than a figure printed for 24 TB alone.
The SATA part number is MG11ACA24TE, with a 512e default format. Toshiba rates the line at 550 TB a year and gives seek noise of 32 dB typical. That figure is for seeks, whereas WD's are labelled idle and operating, so we would not set them side by side.
Rebuild time at 24TB: five stated rates, five floors
Taking 24 TB as 24 trillion bytes, the shortest possible time to rewrite a drive is that figure over its sustained rate. These sheets give us five rates, and the spread between them is the point.
| Feature | Stated rate | Working and floor |
|---|---|---|
| Toshiba MG11 | 295 MiB/s, which is 309,329,920 bytes per second | 24,000,000,000,000 / 309,329,920 = 77,587 s, or 21.6 hours |
| Ultrastar HC580 | 298 MB/s | 24,000,000,000,000 / 298,000,000 = 80,537 s, or 22.4 hours |
| Ultrastar HC590, SATA and SAS | 287 MB/s | 24,000,000,000,000 / 287,000,000 = 83,624 s, or 23.2 hours |
| Exos ST24000NM002H and ST24000NM007H | 285 MB/s | 24,000,000,000,000 / 285,000,000 = 84,211 s, or 23.4 hours |
| Exos ST24000NM001K | 240 MB/s | 24,000,000,000,000 / 240,000,000 = 100,000 s, or 27.8 hours |
The K model's floor runs 4.4 hours beyond the other Exos drive, purely from its lower rate. Each floor assumes the maximum rate across the whole drive and an idle array, so a live rebuild takes longer.
24TB hdd NAS, surveillance and desktop drives, class by class
Everything from here on sits outside the enterprise class. The documents behind this page stop at the enterprise drives, so these tables carry the facts and we add no power or reliability figures. In NAS class, Amazon.co.uk shows 4 offers from £39.58/TB. A 24TB NAS decision also turns on whether the machine supports the drive, which we cannot vouch for from what we have opened, and the same goes for fitting an enterprise row from the first table into a NAS. Look up the exact part number on the machine maker's list.

24TB hard drive refurbished offers and price history
For any row marked Used in the first table, ask what the maker's cover still means. Take the X24 as the example: its 5-year limited warranty is the maker's term for the product, and nothing we opened addresses a unit that has already had an owner, so settle that with the seller first. The refund route is separate: GOV.UK tells businesses to offer a full refund when an item is faulty, not as described or does not do what it is supposed to, and that applies to a business seller. Used SAS stock at other capacities has its own page, refurbished SAS drives.
We cannot give a per-listing 24 TB price history: the site shows only current prices against a named drive. What we can show, tracked since 5 November 2026, is the market level below, with cheapest and median £/TB for all the hard drives we follow rather than this capacity alone. It rises and falls as stock changes, so we quote no percentage from it.
Price tracking on Amazon.co.uk began on 5 November 2026. A chart needs at least two complete days, so there is nothing to plot yet.
Frequently asked questions
Is 24TB still the largest Exos I can buy?
No. Seagate's sheet lists models up to 32 TB in the same line as ST24000NM001K. This page covers 24 TB only, and we price only what Amazon.co.uk lists.
Is a 24TB drive sold in 512e or 4Kn format?
The ST24000NM002H table lists both 512e and 4Kn sectors, as does the HC590. Toshiba's MG11ACA24TE has a 512e default format. On SAS, Seagate also lists 520 and 528 byte sectors on 512e, and 4,160 and 4,224 on 4Kn, so check what your controller expects.
Which is the cheapest way to buy a new 24TB hdd on Amazon?
The table sorts by £/TB across both conditions, so the top row may be used. Go by the Condition column: the first row marked New is the lowest new £/TB. £606.28 is the lowest price of any condition. The 22TB and 20TB tables are worth comparing if no new row here suits.
