When a NAS benefits from SSD storage
SSDs help when the bottleneck is latency or random I/O. Photo libraries, databases, virtual machines, container images, development workspaces and metadata-heavy file shares can feel dramatically better on flash. They also remove vibration and most drive noise, which matters in a desk-side NAS.
SSDs help less when the workload is bulk sequential storage. A Plex library, backup target or archive mostly needs cheap reliable terabytes, and hard drives still dominate that math. A drive with a slower headline can be the better NAS buy if it has higher write endurance, clearer warranty terms and a form factor the NAS was designed to cool.
