SanDisk NAS 600 SSD
SanDisk NAS 600 is the SATA half of SanDisk's new NAS SSD lineup: a 2.5-inch, 7mm SSD for NAS systems that still use SATA bays. It is the direct product family to watch if you are comparing against the older WD Red SA500.
Current offers are treated separately from the specification table. If retail pricing is unavailable for a NAS 600 capacity, unrelated SanDisk portable SSDs and generic SATA drives are not shown as substitutes.
Retail availability is still expanding. Price unavailable.

Where NAS 600 fits in a NAS build
A SATA NAS SSD is not trying to beat a PCIe 5.0 NVMe drive on peak throughput. Its job is compatibility. Many NAS devices have 2.5-inch SATA bays, some rack systems expose SATA SSD slots for hot data, and older all-flash projects are often built around SATA backplanes. In those systems, a NAS-focused SATA SSD is easier to validate than a consumer boot drive.
NAS 600 also belongs in the conversation when a hard-drive array is too slow for metadata, databases, small-file shares or virtual-machine images. It is not a replacement for large low-cost HDD pools; it is the flash tier above them. If your NAS has M.2 NVMe slots and the software supports NVMe storage pools, compare SanDisk NAS 800 instead.
NAS 600 vs general-purpose SATA SSDs
General desktop SATA SSDs can work in light NAS use, but the risk is not the connector. The risk is sustained writes, thermal behavior, firmware expectations and warranty terms. NAS SSDs are positioned for always-on storage appliances, which is why endurance and warranty matter more here than a few megabytes per second of quoted sequential speed.
The economic question is current price. If a desktop SSD is slightly cheaper but gives up the NAS positioning, that is not always a bargain. If a WD Red SA500 or NAS 600 capacity drops close to consumer-SATA pricing, the NAS-specific drive becomes the cleaner buy.
Compatibility notes
Match the drive to the bay first: NAS 600 is a 2.5-inch SATA SSD. A 3.5-inch HDD bay may require a tray or adapter for 2.5-inch media, while an M.2 slot will not accept this drive. For Synology enterprise systems, official support is stricter than physical fit; use the NAS compatibility pages to separate vendor validation from a technical comparison.
Frequently asked questions
What is the SanDisk NAS 600?
SanDisk NAS 600 is a 2.5-inch SATA SSD family for NAS storage workloads. It targets systems with SATA bays that need flash capacity, lower latency and stronger write endurance than a general-purpose desktop SSD.
What capacities does SanDisk NAS 600 come in?
SanDisk lists 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB NAS 600 capacities. The largest 4TB model is listed with up to 2,500 TBW endurance and a five-year limited warranty.
Is SanDisk NAS 600 faster than WD Red SA500?
Both are SATA NAS SSDs, so the interface ceiling is similar. The buying decision should come down to capacity, endurance, warranty, NAS support and current price rather than a large sequential-speed difference.
Can I use SanDisk NAS 600 in a Synology or QNAP NAS?
It should fit NAS units that accept 2.5-inch SATA SSDs, but official support depends on the NAS vendor and model. For Synology enterprise systems, check the vendor compatibility list before treating any non-Synology drive as officially supported.
Why does this page show no price if the drive just launched?
Retail pricing is not yet widely available for every NAS 600 capacity. The specifications and compatibility guidance remain useful while retail availability expands.
