Who should consider UniFi Enterprise NAS?

The strongest buyer is already operating a UniFi rack and wants storage managed alongside the network rather than a separate NAS ecosystem. Dual 25GbE gives the chassis enough network headroom for many-drive pools, backups, shared project storage and surveillance adjacent workloads that need fast centralized capacity.

It is less attractive if you want the broad application ecosystem of Synology DSM or QNAP QTS, or if a desktop four-bay NAS solves the problem. Sixteen bays only make sense when the drive budget, rack space, switch ports and backup plan are all part of the same purchase.

Drive compatibility and storage planning

Ubiquiti publishes storage requirements rather than a long model-by-model consumer NAS list. For hard drives, the fill estimate intentionally uses in-stock SATA CMR/ePMR drives and excludes unknown recording technology because a shingled drive is a poor fit for parity rebuilds in a large array.

For SSD cache, Ubiquiti's guidance favors M.2 NVMe SSDs. Cache is useful for hot random I/O, metadata and repeated access. Large sequential files may bypass cache in many storage systems, so fill the hard-drive pool correctly before spending heavily on cache.
